The final states are found to be controlled via the system’s lattice constant, which determines the strength of the magnetostatic interactions between the elements, as well as the field ramping rate. We understand these effects as a requirement that the system undergoes a sufficiently large number of active rotations within the critical field window in which elements may be reversed, such that the interactions are allowed to locally exert their influence if the ground state is to be approached. On the other hand, if quenched disorder is too strong when compared to the interaction strength, any close approach to the ground state is impossible. These results show that it is not necessary for there to be any ac component to the field amplitude that is applied to the system during demagnetization, which is the method almost exclusively employed in field protocols reported to date. Furthermore, by optimizing the parameters of our linear demagnetization protocol, the largest field-generated ground state domains yet reported are found.

Magnetic anisotropy of elongated thin ferromagnetic nano-islands for artificial spin ice arrays.
The energetics of thin elongated ferromagnetic nano-islands is considered for some different shapes, aspect ratios and applied magnetic field directions. These nano-island particles are important for artificial spin ice materials. For low temperature, the magnetic internal energy of an individual particle is evaluated numerically as a function of the direction of a particle's net magnetization....

We report the results, from experimental and micromagnetic studies, of the magnetic normal modes in artificial square spin ice systems consisting of ferromagnetic-monodomain islands. Spin-wave properties are measured by Brillouin light scattering. The mode spectra contain several branches whose frequencies are sensitive to the magnitude and in-plane orientation of an applied magnetic field. We ...

In contrast to the experimentally widely used isentropic demagnetization process for cooling to ultra-low temperatures we examine a particular classical model system that does not cool, but rather heats up with isentropic demagnetization. This system consists of several magnetite particles in a colloidal suspension, and shows the uncommon behavior of disordering structurally while ordering magn...

The relationship of permanent magnetic material characteristic parameters was analyzed, and a simulation method of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) rotor demagnetization fault was put forward. Based on this, a simulation model of the PMSM under partial demagnetization and uniform demagnetization fault were established, and different degrees demagnetization fault was simulated. Relati...
متن کاملDemagnetization Fields
Generaly in the study of magnetism, and specifically for micromagnetics simulations, one needs to know the magnetic field ~ HM inside a macroscopic magnet, that is caused by the magnetization ~ M (the dipole moment per unit volume) of that magnet itself. Some aspects of how that demagnetization field can be found are discussed. There are two basic cases: (1) The demagnetization field ~ HM insid...
